Geocache Description:

This cache is located near the NW corner of the Town of Sandwich and Carroll County, about 50 yards uphill from a gated Forest Service road. It may be difficult to access the cache when there is enough snow to ski to it. I didn't get good reception under the large trees and you may not either, but the location should be fairly obvious - use the hint if necessary.

The accepted high point of Carroll County is located along the county line in a Wilderness area where geocaches may not be placed, hence this cache is placed along the line at the NW corner of the county. My intent was to have cachers furnish the coordinates of the corner marker, but since Groundspeak has banned additional logging requirements (and I couldn't find it myself :-) this is not required. I will give a special award to anyone who finds a corner marker (or any other county line markings) in this area.

Parking at N 43 53.521' W 71 34.463'

The Forest Service charges a fee ($3 soon to be $5) to park at the trailhead unless you have an annual pass. If this sounds like too much, go on a free day (next one is November 11 during hunting season), park .3 miles down the road and walk over, or complain to the Forest Service or your Congressperson that the fee is illegal because this site lacks the toilets, trash cans, and picnic tables that are required under Forest Service regulations for fee areas.
