10-10-10 Lubbock's Woods Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

katcogo: After a lot of thought I decided to archive this series. it was set up as an activity for a 10-10-10 event on Oct 10, 2010 that besides celebrating 10-10-10 and 10 years of Geocaching it was an attempt to break a previous record for finds logged in a day (it did). It has had a great run.

This spot has some interesting history that is largely unknown. The hint for this was "mouse hole". I went by today to remove the cache and could not find either the original nor the replacement. Lots of evidence of animal activity in all the nooks and crannies so it is possibly muggled by the woodland gang.

Geocache Description:

A nice spot in some cool woods

This cache was placed as part of the 10-10-10 Flash & Scatter event which included a number of unpublished caches.

Welcome to Lubbock's Woods Park.

The Lubbock family moved to Burnaby in 1915 and purchased land and a house at 1 Arbour Lane. They kept cattle and chickens but were best known for their stables. They trained new riders in the riding ring then sent them out on the many riding trails at Burnaby Lake (remember that the freeway was not always there!) The freeway and other vehicle traffic led to the decline of the stables, and the land was sold to developers in the late 70s.

The Lubbocks held annual rodeos that were very popular as well as other riding competitions. The nearby townhouse development is built on the property where the farm and stables once stood.

The cache is located in the woods just off the urban trail.
