An dieser Stelle brachte der aus Dürkheim stammende
Salineninspektor Georg Christian Henrich Rosentritt seine erste
Bohrung nieder. In der Nacht zum 10. September 1822 stieß er in
einer Tiefe von 175 m auf ein etwa 43 m mächtiges Salzlager, aus
dem seither eine voll gesättigte Sole gefördert wird.
Bohrlöcher und Soleförderung
Den bis ins Steinsalzlager vorgetrieben Bohrlöchern kommt eine
Doppelfunktion zu. Zum einen gelangen durch das Bohrloch die
Grundwässer der das Salzflöz überlagernden Schichten zu dem
Salzlager und werden durch dessen Auflösung mit Salzen
angereichert. Diese Salzlösung wird Sole genannt.

Die Bad Rappenauer Sole ist eine voll gesättigte
Natriumchlorid-Lösung, die mit 27 Prozent die höchstmögliche
Sättigung erreicht hat. In einem Liter Sole sind 316 Gramm Salze
enthalten. Die Sole wiederum wird mittels im Bohrlochtiefsten
befindlicher Pumpen an die Erdoberfläche gehoben. Derzeit sind in
Bad Rappenau zwei Bohrlöcher in Betrieb. Sie versorgen die
Reha-Kliniken, das Sole-Hallenbad, das Therapiezentrum, das
Sole-Freibad und das Inhalatorium mit der für Bäder, Inhalationen
und die Behandlung der Schuppenflechte (Psoriasis) die
Sole-Photo-Therapie benötigten Sole.
Das Tretrad
Das Tretrad steht genau über dem Fundbohrloch, dessen Bohrröhre,
die als Führungsbahn für das Bohrgerät diente, erhalten geblieben
ist. Das Tretrad diente bei der Niederbringung der Bohrlöcher dem
Einführen und Herausziehen des Bohrgestänges. Nachher fand es beim
Ausbau des Bohrloches für die Soleförderung (Bohrlochverrohrung)
sowie beim Einbau der Solepumpe und bei der periodischen Reinigung
der Bohrlöcher Verwendung. Deshalb gehörten Treträder zur
Grundausstattung der Bohrhäuser .

Das Tretrad wurde von der Bohrmannschaft angetrieben, d.h. von 12
bis 16 Mann, die sich abwechselten und teils in, teils auf dem mehr
als 2 m breiten Radkranz liefen. Zur Kraftübertragung diente der
massive, etwa 3 m lange und die Tretachse verlängernden Wellbaum,
um den ein Seil gewunden war. Dieses wiederum lief über ein im
oberen Gebälk des Bohrturmeshängendes Rad(Seilrolle, auch
Umlenkrolle genannt). Es lenkte die vom Tretrad erhaltene Kraft zu
dem Gestänge im Bohrloch um. Um ein 200 m langes Gestänge, das bis
ins Salzlager reichte und etwa 1,5 Tonnen wog, herauszuziehen,
mussten die Radtreter etwa 2000 m auf den Radkranz marschieren. Ab
1905 übernahm allmählich der mit elektrischer Kabelwinde versehene
fahrbare Bohrturm die Aufgabe der Treträder.

The Tread-wheel
.
The Tread-wheel stands exactly over the find borehole, its casing
pipes, which served as guide way for the drilling equipment,
remained. The tread-wheel was used for the sinking and pulling of
the drill pipes out of the boreholes. Afterwards it found with the
development of the borehole for the brine promotion (borehole
pipework system) as well as with the installation of the Solepumpe
and with the periodic cleaning of the boreholes use. Therefore
tread-wheels included to the basic equipment of the drilling
houses. The tread-wheel was supported by the drilling crew, i.e.
from 12 to 16 men, which alternated and partly in, partly on that
more than 2 m broad wheel rim ran. For the power transmission the
substantial, for a long time and the tread-axle extending waving
tree, served about 3 m around which a rope was wound. This again
ran over a wheel drilling rig-hanging in the upper timberwork
(pulley, also guide roller mentioned). It returned Kraft received
