Metric Multi Multi-Cache

This cache has been archived.

tenebrus: Even today, my coordinates for part 1 were fine, but with all the reports of 100' feet off and with all the reports of people shortcutting to the final, I decided that this cache misbehaves more than I'd like it to. As such, it is archived. All components (except for stage 9 were located and removed).

How Geocaching Works

Please note Use of geocaching.com services is subject to the terms and conditions in our disclaimer.

Geocache Description:

Note: the entirety of this cache is given in metric measure. This includes distances, times, angles, veolcity, temperature, and so forth. You may note that not all metric units were adopted by the world. More importantly, you may want to bring some tools with you (calculator, scrap paper, research notes, a copy of the Points' descriptions) before seeking this cache.

There's a reasonable amount of walking from start to finish on this cache. Please allow 5-10 kiloseconds to complete this cache.

Things You Need to Know:

  • Every (metric) day has 100,000 (metric) seconds = 1,000 (metric) minutes = 10 (metric) hours
  • Every right angle has 100 grads, which makes for a full circle being 400 grads.
  • UTM coordinates are conveniently given in a grid of meters.
  • Prefixes matter: tera- = 1,000,000,000,000, giga- = 1,000,000,000, mega = 1,000,000, myrio- = 10,000, kilo- = 1,000, hecto = 100, deka = 10, deci = 1/10, centi- = 1/100, milli- = 1/1000, micro- = 1/1,000,000, nano- = 1/1,000,000,000, pico- = 1/1,000,000,000,000.
  • One special historical unit, the Ångstrom, is one-tenth of a nanometer.

Stages of this Multi-cache:
Note that you should keep all waypoints marked until you've completed the cache.

Point 1: this is a standard small cache at the given coordinates. It will give you UTM coordinates for Point 2. (In case you really need it, there should also be copies of these 10 points - but better would be bringing along your own copy to take notes on.)

Point 2: this is a standard micro at the coordinates from Point 1. It gives instructions for what to look for nearby but on the other side of the trail that has the micro at Point 3.

Point 3: this is a standard micro at the description from Point 2. It will provide a distance and a true bearing to find Point 4.

Point 4: this is a standard micro at the calculated location from Point 3. From here, it gives another distance and true bearing to get to Point 5 – conversions necessary.

Point 5: this is a standard micro. It gives two distances: one north or south, followed by one east or west. Follow those directions – conversions necessary.

Point 6: this is a standard micro that provides a calculation to be made.

Point 7: this is a standard micro. Much like Point 2, It gives instructions for what to look for to get to Point 8.

Point 8: this is a standard micro. Once found, you will travel one-tenth of the way back from Point 8 towards Point 3 to find Point 9.

Point 9: this is a standard micro that provides the final calculation to determine the location of the logbook at Point 10 for this cache. (Remember: everything about this cache is given in metric! Everything!)

Point 10: this is a standard regular cache with a logbook. Thanks for caching in metric.

Usual Disclaimers:
You are assuming the risk of adventure when you go geocaching. I have not set out anything to significantly increase that risk. Additionally, pay attention to park boundaries, nature's hazards, your body's own warning signs, etc., etc. Most importantly, hunting is allowed in this park, so pay attention to hunting season.
