Geocache Description:

This can be found on the edge of the village, just before the Churchyard.
Sensible on-road parking available.
Go through the large metal gate ( may need to give it a good push ).

You are looking for a round camo screw-top beaker.

This pit was originally an old stone quarry on the edge of the village, and thought to be used for cockfighting and wrestling around the early 1800's.
One stormy evening in 1848, a local preacher led his congregation to the old quarry for shelter.

Following the East Wheal Rose mining disaster of 1846 it was converted to a Preaching Pit in 1852 as a memorial to the 39 miners who had perished when the mine flooded after an unusually heavy thunderstorm that lasted for an hour and a quarter.
In July 1919, boys who fought in the 1st World War were officially welcomed home at the pit.

Still in community use, it was refurbised in 2003 with the aid of Lottery grant money.
