Geocache Description:

This cache has been placed as part of the ever growing ‘Two Degrees West’ series of caches.

The line of longitude, 2°W, is the only line of longitude that coincides exactly with one of the lines of the Ordnance Survey National Grid. It's line 400000 of the National Grid, also known as the Central Meridian, for those who like to know these things. It also runs the entire length of England: from just outside Berwick-upon-Tweed on the north-east coast to a couple of miles south-west of Swanage on the south coast - a total of 359 miles - passing through our home town on the way. For more information about this please visit ‘CH07: Two Degrees West - The Original GC19PEF’ which explains much more about this series and also the challenge to see how many other caches can be placed upon the 2°W line.

You are looking for a small click lock box within a camouflaged bag containing log book, pencil and a few goodies. Please make sure that the cache is well hidden again when you have finished.

There is a lovely view across north Potterne from here with the church tower of St. Mary taking centre stage. On clear days you can also view right across Hartmoor and down through the valley to Westbury in the distance.

If you walk on up the bridleway from the cache position you will also be able to see the ‘Potterne One Tree’ to the south-east and the town of Devizes to the north with a glimpse of the white horse in the distance. Etchilhampton hill is also visible to the east.

The approach to this cache is via a field bridleway and so I’m afraid is not suitable for wheelchairs or buggies and can get quite muddy.

Off road parking is available in a lay-by at N 51° 19.868 W 002° 0.201 with the start of the bridleway just close by at N 51° 19.856 W 002° 0.213.

This series is slowly growing.
All active "Two Degrees West" caches can be seen here.

Good luck to you all.
