Who knew that states have their own official State Fossils? I sure
didn't.
This cache is located along the Fossil Trail in General Butler
State Resort Park. The Fossil Trail is a hard pack mixed used trail
that runs a full 4.5 miles through the park and is a favorite of
mountain bikers during certain times of the year. (Cachers have
only to explore a short portion of the trail for this cache)
The bikers aren't likely to notice as they zoom by all the
Brachiopod fossils in the rocks that scatter the trail they are
riding on. But as Geocachers. . . we see 'em. The Brachiopod is the
Kentucky State Fossil. Take a look at your feet and notice how many
you'll see mixed into the trail base.
You are seeking a camo painted small beach safe. Be careful with
the latch when opening and closing the container. Please re-hide as
good or better than you found it.
To access the cache use the parking coordinates listed, they are at
the observation point at General Butler State Resort Park. Trail
Access is at the yellow gate by the observation point and cache is
located along the Fossil Trail.
If you would like a trail map, stop in at the lodge and pick one up
at the front desk. Tell them you are a Geocacher!
Cache Originally Contained: Small Keychain, Mario Pinball Game,
Logbook and pencil. In addition for FTF (of FTF and 2ndTF) there's
a golden portrait of James K. Polk, and one of John Adams.
There are two other Geocaches nearby (Lookout Cache (GCY8CY) and
Ski Butler III (GC2G1PD). Might as well get those while you are
parked here. There are two other caches on the east end of the park
as well on the Woodland trail.
REMEMBER: Trails close at dusk at this state park, no night caching
allowed. Please hide as well or better than you found to avoid it
being seen from the trail.
Contrags to Confused Zombie for the FTF. Way
to go!!!
This cache has been placed according to Kentucky State Parks
Geocaching regulations and permission for placement given by Park
