Geocache Description:

This cache is brought to you with the kind permission of the woodland trust. (Many thanks to Hayley!) This is a trail that really must be done at dusk or in the dark. The cache itself is easy to find. Remember to use trackback or use the entrance coordinates to return. It is only our fourth so feedback is welcome. NOTE: do not start off along the footpath into the fields, look to the left of the footpath sign for a route into the woods instead!

It is in a wood so the paths are often slippery, boggy and over grown with nettles and brambles hence the high terrain rating. We recommend hiking boots and jeans and a bright torch! Please avoid alarming the locals though. The coordinates indicate the entrance to the wood. From here follow the path straight ahead until you reach the following coordinates. The Northings are N53 24.00Z The Westings are W 00 00.ABC where Yalta woods were GIFTED to the woodland trust in which year + 10 = 1ABC The RSPB was founded in which year? = 188Z (Because of tree cover we had 5 very different readings that we averaged so if in doubt see clue one.) Now the fun begins; - shine the torch around. You are looking for small reflective flashes about 1cm squared, the size of a penny. These flashes are mainly high up. On some trees there are two to help you see them. (Some smaller people had the view covered by branches when we checked the route!) When you find one, walk to it and shine the torch around to find the next flash. Follow all the flashes until you find a tree with 3 flashes in a vertical row. At this point look around on the ground. Clue two shouldn’t be needed! The trail is very short but we hope you like it. The tub is now a bit smaller than the original and more cylindrical! Oh and beware, here be owls. (Mrs Jafffacake is not exactly comfortable with that fact! See GC2DGDE) The woods are alive with the sound of Tawny Owls Don’t forget to use trackback or you can follow the path directly back to the entrance. Once again can we remind you not to alarm locals, bring a good torch, plenty of batteries and good sturdy boots!
