katcogo: Was nearby so thought I would check this one out. It is gone (again). This seems to be a popular spot for people to root around and climb about. This has given me more problems than my cache in a very busy urban setting. Rather than replace I will open the area up for others. My first archived cache. Sigh . . .

Geocache Description:

Welcome to Forest Grove, one of Burnaby's more interesting
neighbourhoods

This cache was placed as part of the 10-10-10 Flash & Scatter event which included this and other unpublished caches.

The community of Forest Grove is one of the first planned communities in Burnaby, built in the early 1980s. It contains entirely townhouses, many as strata title condos, but is also home to a large number of co-op projects. With no existing housing or roads, the forest was a blank slate for planners. They seem to have done a pretty good job..

There are a few things that characterize the community. One is the tank farms that surround it, accompanied with incessant signs warning about pipelines underfoot almost everywhere you turn.

Another feature is that the area is criss-crossed with well constructed pedestrian trails winding throughout the entire community.

Oh yeah, it is also built on the side of Burnaby Mountain so besides the obvious hills, there is a lot of wildlife in the area – and the forest..
