Elberta Needs Another Cache!

The village of Elberta in Benzie Co. Michigan is located on the shores of Lake Michigan. The pristine coastline provides the visitor with many opportunities for fishing, swimming, hiking, among other activities. Until 1911 Elberta was called South Frankfort, when it was named for the peach that was grown in abundance in the neighboring areas. Elberta was the home of the Ann Arbor Railroad Car Ferries which crossed to other Lake Michigan ports until 1982 .

Today Elberta is a place on the move! On the former Ann Arbor Railroad Terminal Yard, the village has developed a waterfront park with playground, picnic area, a boardwalk along the Betsie Bay. The park serves as the trailhead for the Betsie Valley Trail. As the result of the popularity of the trail, several new restaurants have opened for a quick snack or a casual meal. There are several marinas on both sides of Betsie Bay in Elberta and Frankfort. Summer Thursday mornings bring farmers and crafters to the park area to sell their wares. In the fall the salmon run brings fishermen to the mouth of the Betsie River in Elberta. Elberta is a place for all seasons enjoyment!
