Geocache Description:

Bonnie Parker & Clyde Barrow, with Joe Gunn as hostage in the back seat, are trying to make it to Arkansas, with deputy sheriffs in hot pursuit. It’s Feb. 12, 1934. Near this area on old route 13 officers opened fire, but Clyde never slowed down.

Clyde knew he had to get to Radical, then cross the White River via the Kimberling Bridge (old one) and on to the Arkansas border. He also knew that in 1934 deputies were not able to communicate well between states to pursue robbers, and the FBI did not make robbery and kidnapping Federal crimes until a few years later. Another change after the Barron Gang robberies was that police cars began to have 2 way radios.
When they got near Berryville, AR, they let Joe Gunn out, gave him $10 and he walked home to Reeds Spring; one of the few to live to tell about such an encounter with the renowned Bonnie and Clyde. From Arkansas Bonnie and Clyde continued south and later made it to Bienville Parish, Louisiana where they died in a shootout with sheriff deputies on May 23, 1934. Clyde was 24 and Bonnie was 23.
Beware of curves in this mountain country, some roads get a high volume of them! Don’t forget to log your find. Location has been OK'd by owner.
