Geocache Description:

This cache is a double anniversary tribute to the Boy Scouts of America and Geocaching. This year, 2010, the Boy Scouts of America is celebrating its 100th anniversary and Geocaching is celebrating its 10th anniversary.

The origin of Boy Scouts of America:

Boy Scouts of America was first formed by W.D. Boyce, Edward S. Stewart, and Stanley D. Willis on February 8, 1910. Its inception was inspired and modeled by Boyce after an encounter with a young scout from the Boy Scout Association while visiting London. The Boy Scout Association in Britain was established by Robert Baden-Powell in 1908. The BSA’s goal is to train youth in responsible citizenship, character development, and self-reliance through participation in a wide range of educational programs and outdoor activities such as camping, aquatics, and hiking.

The origin of Geocaching:

Shortly after the US Department of Defense ceased scrambling of GPS signals for civilian use, Dave Ulmer placed the first cache outside Portland, Oregon and posted its coordinates on the internet back on May 3, 2000. Within days, his cache had several finders, and several others had hidden similar caches throughout the world. The name originally given to the activity was the “GPS Stash Hunt”. The name was soon changed to “geocaching” to avoid the negative connotation of the word “stash”. Since then, it has evolved into the activity as we all know it today.

The Cache:

This cache contains a logbook, pencil, and a few nice starting trade items. Please sign the log, trade fairly, and return the container to its original location for others’ enjoyment.
