Geocache Description:

Gybing Jimmy was the helmsman of the legendary pirate sloop “Vile Eel”, sailing the waters of Long Island Sound in the late 17th century. He was called Gybing Jimmy because every time the English galleons were in hot pursuit, he would sail a few quick gybes to get away from them. The much larger and slower English galleons were never able to follow and the “Vile Eel” got away with all its pirate booty. During one of those hot pursuits, the “Vile Eel” was near Milford, just outside of the harbor. Gybing Jimmy received orders from the captain, Bully Haze, to sail one of his infamous maneuvers and hide behind Charles Island. Alas, Gybing Jimmy miscalculated the tide and struck the sandbank right outside the harbor entrance! The “Vile Eel” sank and the pirates along with their booty were washed ashore. Due to the strong current in the harbor, Gybing Jimmy was transported a little further up Gulf Pond and ended up at this exact location where you stand today. When Gybing Jimmy came to, he heard voices. He suspected it was Robert Treat and his soldiers and he knew that if they found him, they would hang him. He decided he barely had enough time to hide his most prized possession, the Kraken Drachma. The Kraken Drachma looks like an ordinary disc of metal by daylight, but during the night, its mysterious powers would arise. Robert Treat found Gybing Jimmy, Captain Bully Haze and the rest of the “Vile Eel” crew. They were hung on the town green the next morning, being accused of piracy. The Kraken Drachma was never found by Robert Treat but the legend around it was passed down through the generations until I heard about it from an old Swashbuckler at 7 Seas. Can the geocachers help me find Gybing Jimmy’s Kraken Drachma? If you find it, you’ll be able to discover its content by daylight but you'll see it's mysterious powers only in the dark! P.S. If you haven’t realized it yet, the story is entirely fictional! A few things about the cache: 1. I would appreciate if you could stick with the pirate/seafarer theme if you place any new items in the cache. 2. Sorry, ground zero is not wheelchair or stroller accessible. 3. The only muggles you'll likely find are fishermen. They like to park on the street but I suggest you park on one of the nearby side streets and walk a couple of minutes. 4. Most importantly: BE CAREFUL, YOU HAVE TO CROSS A FAIRLY BUSY ROAD! I'm removing the night caching attribute, since most of the glow-in-the-dark paint has worn off by now.
