Elk Island is probably the most remote of Manitoba's Provincial Parks within 150km of Winnipeg.
Elk Island Provincial Park is about 900 hectares in size. The island is virtually free of development and has many white sand beaches. Camping and open fires are not permitted on the island. Please help maintain the beauty of this wilderness, by packing out whatever you brought to the island.
In summers with low tide you should be able to wade over to the island from Victoria Beach by simply following the sandbars and then walk along the beach to the cache. When the water is really low during drought years you may even be able to walk over without getting very wet at all. When the water is high though (like in 2010 when this cache was placed), you will need a boat or a canoe.
In the 1950s and 60s, Faith Bible Camp (now located across the channel) used to reside on Elk Island. This area may have been the location where the cabins, dining hall and chapel were located. Either way, this spot on the island is still used today for rustic camping by FBC.
