The
Halapepe Plastic Pot and
Halapepenui Geocache were what brought me to the world of
geocaching. I lived in the area for years, but never fully explored
these trails as they are largely undocumented, but a real gem. When
I stumbled upon the info on the cache pages, it got me out of my
chair and exploring the world.
So I was real bummed when the Halapepe Plastic Pot fell into
disrepair and was archived, literally a week before I was planning
to come up here and do a rescue mission. But it's been reborn now,
placed in the exact spot as the original and in a better container
that will hopefully withstand the harsh wet elements. If you've
visited the original cache before, feel free to log this one
also.
The original cache page described coming up here through the
trailhead at the top of Royal Summit (Kaahele St), and it is also
accessible from the top of Hapaki St. in Newtown. Coming up via the
top of Kaahumanu Street is the most direct route, although you will
have to walk through the gated community to get there. It'll also
give you an opportunity to find some "Good
News!"
