Geocache Description:

North Stoke is a pretty little Oxfordshire village, and this multi gives you an excuse for a short stroll through it. There is space to park on the road into the village and a couple of spaces outside the village hall. The Ridgeway national trail runs through the grounds of St Mary’s church, which is where your stroll begins.

In the churchyard, find the sundial which serves as a memorial to a group of people. There are 2 years mentioned on the base: add together all the digits of both years to give you A (eg the years 1987-1989 would be 1+9+8+7+1+9+8+9 = 52).

The base of this memorial is a regular polygon. Divide the number of sides by 2 to give you B.

Walk back through the main gate of the churchyard to find the gates of a large house on your left. The actor Michael Caine used to live here (not a lot of people know that!) and the terrace of three cottages you'll pass next housed his chauffeur, cook and housekeeper. Using the name of his house, the number of letters in the first word gives you E, and the number of letters in the second word gives you C.

A little further along, at the junction with the “main” road in and out of the village, you will find a converted schoolroom. Divide the year the building was erected by 932 to give you D.

The signpost ahead of you is your next clue – pointing back towards the churchyard, the sign tells you how far along the Ridgeway the village of South Stoke can be found. Using one side of the sign, ignore the decimals and add together the two whole numbers of miles and kilometres to give you H.

Turn left and follow the Ridgeway along the main street to the village hall. Work out how many years this hall would have been standing when the First World War began to give you F.

Continue along the road through the village until you reach the end, and follow a signposted footpath to the left all the way down to a beautiful spot on the river. The rectangular sign you will see there contains a number of vowels – that number gives you G.

The cache is a short distance away at N 51 A.BCD W 001 0E.FGH. It is a micro with a log to sign but you’ll need to bring a pen.
