Geocache Description:

An easy cache with spectacular views east towards Hallingskarve, south Sløtfjorden and Ustevatn and west you see Hardangervidda.

English:
The cache is placed here tbecause of the magnificent views, and to tell the story of "Solstølen" Norway Scoutorganisation (NSF) 's camp here on Haugastøl. The cabin was built in 1927 by Wilhelm August Murstad and his wife Josephine. Murstad was then director of the Hansa brewery in Bergen, and they used it as a summer cottage. At the same time an "old" scout from 2.Bestum named Oluf Reed Olsen, passed the place and looked longing at the fine Murstad cabin that was sheltered from the weather. He had for several years rented a little cabin in Ørterdalen, so when the opportunity came, to take over Murstad cabin in 1980 - Oluf Reed Olsen and his wife Joane (former scout leader in 1.Røa) very fast registred their interest.
Oluf Reed Olsen was born in 1928, and besides being a scout in 1.Bestum he also was a pilot. During World War 2 he was stationed in Canada (Little Norway) He has released two books about his war experiences. He also held several positions in the scout movement.
When Oluf and his wife bought the "Sølstølen", along with a general assistant manager in Hansa brewery, they built a new year-round cottage about 50 yards south, and separated it from "Solstølen." They chose to give "Solstølen" as a gift to NSF, and august 24 1985 the Norwegian scouting organisation was official site.
