Geocache Description:

The above coordinates are false. Please do not go there. The final coordinates were an average of 100's and also taken with the assistance of Purpledreamer's GPS'r, which is better than mine. +/- 7 to 9 meters would be accurate. Difficulty reflects the hide at GZ more so than the puzzle, which is pretty easy.

Murray River Floods 2010

Welcome to my 31st cache... My third mystery cache, and this time I chose a topic close to home, the Murray River Floods in 2010. The floods affected a large area (length) of the river from further east than Yarrawonga to west of Tocumwal. Although the floods only reached what was called a moderate flood level, many of the Murray River flood plains along this part of the river were affected.

The river never breached the levy bank in Tocumwal, but did peak at a height around 6.5m causing enormous amounts of water to be distributed around normally dry areas. The last time this happened according to locals was in 2001 or 2002 depending on who you talk to, and before this in the early 1990's.

I have uploaded some images of the floods in the Tocumwal and Cobram areas. They tell the story.

For some history on floods of the Murray River and for general info on the Murray river see the below sites...

The Puzzle....

This is a really simple puzzle. Visit these two links:

Climate Averages For Tocumwal

River Height Data For Murray River At Tocumwal

Under the river height page, take the station number and subtract 573760. These are the final 3 digits of the south coordinates

Under the climate statistics page for Australian locations, in this case, Tocumwal, take the site number and subtract 73413. These are the final 3 digits of the east coordinates.

Its pretty simple really.

The cache is a custom container, well part of it anyway. Please beware of snakes in this area. At the time of hiding the cache, only several meters away, there was a brown snake, quite a large one (about 5 foot long). The snake was not in the immediate area where the caches is hidden, but was coming from that general direction...

Please have fun with the cache and enjoy the area. The goal of the cache is to show how serious the floods were, as well as giving you some useful links to what sort of info the Bureau of Meteorology can provide.
