Hiro TDK: I cannot tell you how sad it makes me to have to archive this. I drove by yesterday and it seems you are correct. While I am certain that these road blocks will be destroyed by off-road vehicles and vandals in the near future, but it would defeat the spirit of Geocaching were this not to be archived. In the mean time, I'll make a few calls and see what it would take to organize a CITO for the area, maybe get it opened to public traffic. It'd be a shame for such a beautiful area to be continually forgotten for another 50 years.

Geocache Description:

My midget was a spy and upon retiring he placed his briefcase about a half a mile into an abandoned quarry.

In order to find it, you can start by entering the area at:
N 29 17.276
W 82 11.259

... and parking at:
N 29 17.258<<br /> W 82 11.241
At that point, the route is up to you to determine. This is the fun of the hunt. As I will emphasize later, kids are okay if you stick to the heavily beaten path. Dogs are okay as well, if you trust them not to run away or jump off of a cliff. I guess the same applies to the kids. Bug spray is optional. Drinking water is a must.

--- ABOUT THE CACHE ---

The cache is located through best route, a half a mile from the parking area. There are several ways to get there, so you could be exploring for a while. Inside the cache, you will find more items following the theme of miniatures:

Miniature Composition Notebook (Logbook), with miniature pen

Miniature Padlock, with keys
Travel Bug, Rolling Across North America

I will update these as they change and I will be adding and removing stuff occasionally on my semi-daily hikes through the area.

--- ABOUT THE TERRAIN ---

The terrain is listed at 2.5. This is because the heavily beaten vehicle path is easy to walk along and kids/pets should have no problems coming along. However, there are a few cliffs on the sides of the paths that you should keep watch over while the kids pass.

There are also paths (not necessary to find cache) here that adults you can traverse that children cannot; cliff paths, steep slopes that you would need your hands to climb and some skill to descend, mud pits, caves, etc. So, if you would like to enjoy the hike to it's fullest extent, the terrain rating would be a 4 and the kids should stay home.

--- ABOUT THE AREA ---

This area is an abandoned quarry. From the cliffs and caves, to the lakes and valleys, this place is gorgeous... Or at least it should be. Tainting the pictures are piles of trash and tires that people have illegally dumped. While you are not expected to trash out the messes, every little bit would help. There are four little lakes in the area, each surrounded by tall cliffs, and one with a camping area on its side. There are two rock faces dead center in the middle of the quarry that people often bring their guns to fire off at. There are steep slopes with tracks marked by enthusiastic Jeep owners. At the base of one of the cliffs, there sits a small camping area and the entrance to two caves, each an unknown distance deep.

--- ABOUT THE WILDLIFE ---

One things you may notice out there is the surprising lack of overt wildlife. Aside from the occasional bird and the golden orb weavers (commonly and mistakenly referred to as "banana spiders" in Florida). There are fish in the quarries and there is a possibility of gators, though I have not noticed any. Some select areas have bumblebees due to the abundance of flowers. Bug spray, optional.
