Sk8 Like a Girl : the "Drop In" Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

missionMode: Thanks k61. I would have noticed on Monday as I drive by pretty much every day. When I drove by this morning it wasn't clear that they were about to demolish it. I guess the boarding up a few weeks ago was to ensure nobody was living in there quietly when they brought the caterpillars in. The drop in moved about a year ago to the new Youth for Christ center on the northwest corner of Main and Higgins. I've been tempted to hide a cache there but they have better security far more muggles. Little did I know this one would be going away. I've got the cache in hand, not that its much to hold onto.

Geocache Description:

the cache is at the posted coordinates
the skatepark itself has now moved about 500m NW of here.

This cache is part of a series promoting Girl's skateboarding in Winnipeg, in honour of TechDeckPerson. Skate camps and other supports exist in Manitoba for young boys, but so far not enough girls have been identified to warrant much activity aimed toward them. That said, an US based group SkateLikeAGirl and the Manitoba Skateboarding Coalition have held a girls only event called "Chicks Flip Out" in July for the past 2 years, attracting skaters in their teens and 20s from around the world. So get out there and get your skate on... it's not just for the boys. Sadly, sponsors have pulled out so there will be no event in 2010.

This cache is a small magnetic container. Be very careful of the skating muggles, as they are always attentive and often hanging out near this cache for a smoke.

From WinnipegSkateboarding.com:

The Edge is Winnipeg's only decent indoor skatepark. Its got a bunch of transitions ranging from 2ft to 6.5ft, it has a huge vert wall-ride and a separate narrow vert wall for experienced skaters. There is a mini ramp with a wall-ride and extension, there's a half bowl (4ft) and a tiny 3ft spine mini-ramp. The Edge has a few boxes and a rail. There is a up-gap with a large handrail, there is a pyramid with a down-rail and a small hubba on the side. There is also a 6ft quarter-pipe with a love seat gap in the middle. At the far end the Edge has a 6.5ft spine (fairly steep for it's size). Upstairs the Edge has a lounge room for it's Wednesday's Bible Study/Free Supper/Skate session

The buildings here seemed to have bounced my signal despite a few minutes of averaging. Please see the hint before venting your frustations.

Logging Etiquette: Geocache hiders sometimes go through a great deal of planning to place their caches. As a result, they'd like to hear your feedback on whether you liked or disliked any aspect of the hide, or if you feel that some cache maintenance is required. Single word, acronym, or emoticon logs may be easier when you have a lot of caches to log, but it doesn't tell the hider or other finders anything about your adventure (or lack thereof) in finding the cache. Please keep this in mind when entering your log.
