Geocache Description:

Lady of The Lake Graphics 2.jpg

The Lady of the Lake was built in 1912 and was named after Mount Earnslaw, a 2889m peak at the head of Lake Wakatipu.

On 24 February 1912, the TSS Earnslaw was launched and fired up for her maiden voyage to Queenstown, with the Minister of Marine as captain. She is the only remaining passenger-carrying coal-fired steamship in the southern hemisphere and now operates purely as a tourist attraction, taking visitors to and from Walter Peak Station, a fully operational sheep farm on the other side of the lake.

The cache is a camo'd Eclipse tin and is located away from prying eyes (and CCTV cameras!) but stealth is required at all times and keep an eye on small children as it is near water. Please replace the cache as found.

**Occasionally the lake level may have an impact on the availability of the cache (over 310.4 and you may struggle!). For information regarding the level of the lake, you can go here: http://water.orc.govt.nz/WaterInfo/Site.aspx?s=Wakatipu
