Geocache Description:

50 cal ammo box, quick & easy about 200’ walk from the car.

There’s a new County Park in town! What better way to introduce a new County Park than to place a cache? I couldn’t think of a better way. Actually this is a very easy cache by Cacheoholic standards. So easy, you may even call it lame. That’s ok, I don’t mind you calling it lame because it really is; but it does meet Cacheoholic criteria.

Cacheoholic Law says that you should only hide caches somewhere you can do, see or learn something unique. This 10 acre site was once R & P Coal’s Lucerne 3A Mine. The remains of the portal can be found at the additional waypoint. The old mine emits acid mine drainage (AMD) with a 2.7ph at a rate of 100 gallons per minute. The AMD is treated with hydrated lime (alkali) to raise the ph and neutralize the AMD.

The park provides easy access with a walkway to Two Lick Creek for boating or fishing. There is a picnic shelter, grill and bathrooms at this point. The park is not fully completed but will include an artificial wetland. This artificial wetland is to replace wetlands removed by the expansion of the Jimmy Stewart Airport. A new wetland had to be made due to the Clean Water Act’s “no net loss” clause.
