Ballantrae is a community in South Ayrshire. The name probably
comes from the Gaelic word Baile na Tràgha, meaning the "town by
the beach". Ballantrae itself is a very picturesque village
situated on the main A78 between Stranraer and Girvan.
BALLANTRAE VILLAGE
The cache is located on the Stinchar valley walk. There are many
walks along this valley, the walk for this cache starts just beyond
the Ballantrae cemetery. There is parking available at the
cemetery, with views over looking Ballintrae and across to Ailsa
Craig.
The start of the walk is app. 350 feet south of the car park. This
is the start of the Stinchar Valley
walk. The walk will take you through woodland, following a
tributary burn which flows of the main River Stinchar. The path
here is very distinctive and can be muddy at times with lots of
jaggies along the edges of the path, so walking boots and long
trousers would be advisable. The cache itself is app.1/2 mile walk
from the start, you will be looking for a small blue canister,
protected by a cache ‘SPRITE’, all will become apparent
later. Please replace exactly as found
