The village of Dedham and it's surrounding area are perhaps best known for providing inspiration for John Constable (1776 - 1837). Paintings such as "Dedham Vale", "The Cornfield" and "The Hay Wain" gave rise to the phrase "Constable Country" and it is by this name that Dedham and its surroundings are often known.
St Mary's Church built in 1432 stands prominently on the main High Street and is a landmark for miles around. Personally I've always loved this church and having been a visitor there on two occasions now (sadly both visits for funerals) my affection for the Church remains. Why this church particularly? I have no idea, however, I think there is something awe-inspiring about its majestic exterior and the fact that it is visible from miles away, yet when approaching the village by road, it is hidden by buildings until suddenly jumping out at you! (look at me getting all poetical!)
Dedham boasts some lovely tea rooms, public houses and a craft centre which I would highly recommend visiting if you are like myself "crafty". I would also recommend taking advantage of the ample free parking and go for a wander along the Stour or alternatively, hire a rowing boat and have a leisurely afternoon on the river
This cache is a small black vial (bigger than a nano, smaller than a film pot). Placed near to the traditional Dedham village sign. YOU WILL NEED TWEEZERS!
