Geocache Description:

Easy cache and dash with off street parking. Located in a quiet part of town, overlooked by houses. Beware of muggles!

The cache marks the location of the ancient Lanark Castle, at the end of a road called Castlegate. It was a Motte and Bailey construction, built on a glacier rounded knoll. (Now the site of one of Lanark's Bowling Clubs.) Lanark was granted Royal Burgh status in 1140 by David I, and its castle was also the site of Scotland's first parliament. Walk up the incline towards the plaque that marks the site. The nearby Castlebank Park allows access to the River Clyde Walkway. The location of William Wallaces house is at the other end of the Castlegate, next to the Clydesdale Bank, and a plaque marks the spot. The cache is a small plastic tub containing the log. Please bring your own pencil.
