Inleiding
Deze cache is een gemengde mystery-/multi-cache. De wandeling zelf
is een kleine 3 km lang. Blijf zoveel mogelijk op de paden. Bij WP4
en WP7 moet je wel even het pad verlaten. Een deel van het gebied
is tussen zonsondergang en zonsopkomst veboden terrein. Als het
geregend heeft kan het op enkele plaatsen behoorlijk drassig zijn.
Vergeet niet om de 'uitgepuzzelde' gegevens mee te nemen!
Voorbereiding
Laatst weer eens op bezoek geweest in een oorlogsmuseum. Het is
interessant om te zien wat er zoal aan verbindingsapparatuur werd
gebruikt in WO-II. De stand der techniek is met de komst van
(micro) electronica wel erg veranderd. Hiermee is bijvoorbeeld
encryptie van berichten tegenwoordig gemeengoed geworden, denk maar
aan de DECT telefoon, beschermde internet pagina's (https://) enz.
Vroeger had je geen ICs (chips), maar relais, radio-buizen,
schakelwalsen en zo. Veel apparaten waren een mix van electrische
en mechanische oplossingen.
In een van de virtines las ik een verhaal over een
verbindingsofficier van de Duiste Wehrmacht die in de omgeving van
Eindhoven een schat verstopt zou hebben. Op de dag dat Eindhoven
bevrijd werd is er nog een bericht van hem onderschept. Daarna is
er nooit meer iets van hem vernomen. Dit bericht ziet er duidelijk
gecodeerd uit; zou het verraden waar de schat zich bevindt?

Nieuwsgierig geworden ging ik op zoek in het electronisch
archief van het museum in de hoop het bericht te kunnen decoderen.
Ik vond daar onderstaande afbeelding van een code boek. Toen ik het
probleem aan wat collega's vertelde, begonnen ze te Googlen en te
kwebbelen. Uiteindelijk kwamen we op het idee dat de foto misschien
verborgen informatie bevat. Nadere on-line
analyse[1] wees uit
dat er inderdaad verborgen gegevens in zitten. Alles bij elkaar
opgeteld kreeg het bericht ineens betekenis.[2] Uiteindelijk heb ik hiermee de schat
gevonden.
Los deze puzzels op, loop de volgende multi-cache en ook jij zult
hem vinden. Print de achterhaalde gegevens uit en neem ze mee
als je gaat lopen!
De route
Begin bij WP1, waarvan de coordinaat bovenaan de pagina
staat (N51°29.303 E5°26.410). Hier is ruime
parkeergelegenheid. Vergeet je print-out niet.
Aan de muur hangt een bordje dan aangeeft dat er op 3 meter van de
muur af een waterput ligt.
- Neem de cijfers uit het serienummer van dit bordje. Sorteer ze
oplopend. Verwijder dubbele cijfers. Dit levert resp. A, B, C en
D.
Loop naar het zuidelijkste punt van dit plein. Noteer de nummers
van de lantaarnpalen bij de brug. Stop de cijfers in een zak en
schudt ze door elkaar ☺.
- Wat is het kleinste cijfer? Dit is E.
- Wat is het grootste cijfer? Dit is F.
- Wat is de som van de cijfers die meerdere keren voorkomen? Dit
is G.
- Uit hoeveel letters bestaat het derde woord van de naam van
deze brug? Dit is H.
- Wat is het aantal 'staanders' waarmee de leuning van de brug is
gemonteerd? Dit is JK.

- Wat is het aantal wandelaars op dit paaltje? Dit is L.
- Hoeveel plaatjes zitten er op dit paaltje? Dit is MN.
- Bereken P = L-N+M
Loop langs het water naar WP3,

- Zomaar een vraag: Welk viervoetig wild komt in dit gebied het
meeste voor (6 letters)? Tel de letterwaarden van dit woord op, de
uitkomst is QR.
Ga verder naar WP4, waarvan je de positie in het bericht
hebt gevonden. Loop hiertoe het pad af; ga het paadje tegenover de
laatste lantaarnpaal voor het viaduct in.
- Zoek bij WP4 naar een kleine cache.
Loop naar WP5,

- Ga op het object staan. Hoe hoog sta je nu boven NAP (in hele
meters)? Trek de twee cijfers van elkaar af, dit is S.
Loop verder naar WP6,

- Hoe hard mag je hier rijden? Dit getal is TU.
- Uit welk jaartal stamt dit bord? Het laatste cijfer is V.
Nu heb je genoeg gegevens voor het vinden van de cache:

Introduction
This cache is a mixed mystery-/multi-cache. The walk itself is a
mere 3 km long. Stay on the pathways wherever possible. At WP4 and
WP7 you will have to leave the path though. Between sunset and
sunrise, the area is closed to the public. After a rainy period,
the area can be very swampy/soggy.
Don't forget to take all results of the puzzle with you!
Preparations
Recently, I paid a visit to one of our museums of war history. It
is always interesting to see the kind of communication devices
being used during WW-II. Modern electronics did change these things
drastically. Encryption, for example, is embedded in many
applications these days. Just think about the encryption in your
wireless router, DECT phone, secure Internet pages (https://) etc.
In the old days, they didn't have micro-chips but used radio-tubes,
electro-mechanical relays, camming mechanisms and so on. Many
equipment were built from hybrid electro-mechanical solutions.
One of the displays told the story of a communication's officer
in the German "Wehrmacht". He supposedly hid a treasure in the
vicinity of Eindhoven. On the day Eindhoven got liberated, a radio
message he sent was intercepted. Nothing has been heard of him
since. The message clearly looks encrypted. Would it reveal the
location of the treasure?

Now I got really curious, so I did some research in the
electronic archives of the museum, hoping to find enough clues to
decode the message. Finally I came up with a picture of a German
code book, shown below. When I consulted my collegues about the
problem, the all started to Google and to "kwebbel" (burble). We
agreed that the picture must hold some hidden information. Further
on-line analysis[1]
indeed revealed some. When I combined all this, the message
suddenly got meaning.[2] As expected, it led me to the
treasure.
When you solve the puzzle and walk the multi-cache route, you too
will find the treasure.
Don't forget to print out all data you found and take it with
you!
The walk
Start at WP1, a parking lot. The coordinates are listed at
the top of the page (N51°29.303 E5°26.410). Don't forget
to take along your print-out.
At the wall you will find a sign, indicating that a manhole is
located 3[m] in front of it.
- Note the digits of the serial number of this sign. Place them
in ascending order and remove duplicates. The resulting digits are
A, B, C and D.
Walk to the southern-most corner of the parking lot. Record the
numbers noted on the lamp posts near the bridge. Put them in a bag
and mix them thoroughly ☺.
- Take the smallest digit. This is E.
- Take the largest digit. This is F.
- Add the digits that appear more then once in your bag together.
Call this G.
- Watch the name of the bridge. How many letters make up the
third word of this name? Let's call this H.
- How many iron stands hold each of the handrails? This makes up
for JK.

Mind the superfluous canine fertilizer.
- How many hikers are depicted on this sign-post? You found
L.
- How many shields are mounted on this sign-post? You found
MN.
- Calculate P = L-N+M
Follow the water towards WP3,

- Just a question: which small, 4-legged, game has the largest
population in this area (6 letters)?
Sum up the letter-values (a=1,..,z=26) of the letters in this word
and add 21 as compensation for not speaking Dutch. Call the result
QR.
Proceed to WP4. You found its coordinates in the
decrypted message. Continue on the curent path. Enter the small
path opposite to the last lamp-post before the overpass.
- When arriving at WP4, look for a small stash.

- Enter the object. At what height above sea-level are you
standing (integral meters)? Substract the two digits. This gives
you S.
Continue to WP6, N51°29.(C+M)18 E5°26.BF4
- What is the maximum allowed speed in this area? Call this
TU.
- In what year did they either place of manufacture this speed
sign? Take the last digit. This is V.
You collected all that is needed to find the stash at
