In the cold depths of the night,
spirits prowl these woods, searching for the souls foolish enough
to enter. Only the most courageous dare attempt this cache, and
many will not return. Are you brave enough to try?
This is a nighttime cache that involves following a trail of
reflective markers through the woods. You will need the following
equipment:
- One or more flashlights, at least one per person. A flashlight
with a strong beam is recommended. Headlamps are perfect for this
type of cache.
- Good footwear. Hiking boots are recommended. The terrain is
relatively tough and there are a couple of large trees that fell
across the trail after the cache was placed.
- Bug repellent.
- A cell phone for emergencies.
- Extra batteries for the GPS and flashlights.
This cache should take about 45 minutes to complete, with a
total walking distance of roughly one kilometer. There are three
waypoints before the final location; each waypoint has instructions
on how to proceed. The trail contains a mix of orange fire tacks
and white reflective markers, and uses the following
conventions:
- One tack is used per tree to mark the trail. Unless otherwise
noted the trail always proceeds in roughly the same direction.
- Two tacks together on a tree indicate a change in
direction.
- Three tacks together on a tree indicate a waypoint is
nearby.
- The final location is marked by an ultra-bright flare tack
surrounded by four white markers.
You should always be able to see the next marker when standing
beside the prior marker. The distance between markers varies from 5
- 25m depending on visibility. Sometimes you may need to move
around somewhat to get a good angle for the next marker. I would
recommend turning on the breadcrumb or trail marking feature of
your GPS in case you get off track.
Good luck, and have fun! Also, try not to get
too spooked out!
