A Bailey Bridge, Mk II, In Pescadero Creek County Park
Straddling Tarwater Creek and supporting a section of Camp Pomponio Road, stands one of the mobile bridges conceived by British civil servant Donald Bailey, during WW II. |

Bailey Bridges are transportable, pre-fabricated truss bridges, which can be assembled and moved in sections by a few men, without any heavy cranes or construction equipment. |
Beyond war needs these bridges and components continue to be built and used to the present day. A section of Interstate 10 bridge Twin Spans, destroyed by Hurricane Katrina is a Bailey Bridge.
When a Foot Over Bridge for the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi, India, collapsed days before the opening of the games a construction crew assembled a Bailey Bridge in 4 days at a fraction of the cost of the original bridge.

This bridge is easily accessible from the trails in the area, which require crossing the Tarwater Creek, by way of short walk along Camp Pomponio Road. Please take some time to examine this fascinating structure.
