Geocache Description:

~Tribute to the Bloomington Fire Department~ February 14, 1947 marked the first organizational meeting for the Fire Department. On April 8th of that year, the Town Council voted in Resolution #106, providing for the official start-up of the Bloomington Fire Department. The Council accepted the offer of the land on 95th Street and Syndicate Avenue for $1 to build a fire station. The Town Garage was used as the fire station until the new one would be completed. August 1947 brought the completion of the first Bloomington Fire Station.Total cost of the new building and equipment was $24,000. The first Open House was held October 4, 1947. In the beginning, the Department had 26 charter members responding to one fire station. Today we have 140 active members who respond from 6 different fire stations throughout the city. Fire Fighting Station #5 on Bush Lake Road & 106th Street was my station for 20 years, and we used Bush lake road near this cache many times for are calls. Have fun and be safe with this hide.
