RACE10 - SAW The Cache: Jigsaw's Puzzle Cache Trap Mystery Cache

This cache has been archived.

The GO! Team: I hate the fact that I am doing this, as this was one of my earliest caches... And not only that, it was a award winning cache.

Personally I always hated the location for the hide, always too many people and super exposed to the houses across the street.
But since this box is certainly gone, I feel it just has to go. No revival, no placing something else here, just straight up archival.

Thanks for all the votes to win best mystery cache, and thanks GCGV for awarding it for best page design.

The cache is not at the above coordinates.
Figure out the puzzle to find the actual cache location. Please participate in the entire write up and watch the videos, as this is a semi-interactive story and not doing so kills the experience. This cache page may or may not be Smart Phone friendly, so doing this at your PC or Mac is suggested.

This cache is inspired by one of my favorite Halloween traditions, the SAW movie series.

Slowly you start to rise out of a sleep. Your head is buzzing, but your senses start to come around. You notice it is very hard for you to lift your head, its heavy. Actually it feels as if something is on your head. Your mouth is filled with a metallic taste that makes you gag a little. Slowly as the rest of your body starts to awaken you open your eyes.

Photobucket

That didn't do you any good at all. It is pitch black in here. With your smell returning and the buzzing in your head dissipating you start to take in your surroundings by scent and sound. You hear water dripping, and the smell is none too nice. Smells damp and unclean. As you stand up to find a light switch, you hear a loud snap and the tell tale sound of electricity meeting industrial lighting tells you that your quest for light is over. The light is bright at first, but as your eyes begin to focus you see your prison for the first time.

Photobucket

Ewww gross. You were right about the place being very unclean. It seems you are in a long forgotten industrial bathroom. Mold grows on the walls, a puddle of rancid water sits in the middle of the floor. You try to find your voice and yell for help but you can't, whatever it is that's on your head is preventing you from doing so. You desperately look around and notice beside you is a table, upon which a pen, paper with writing on it that looks like it was done in blood, and a GPS device. Directly in front of you is an old TV.

You decided to go look in one of the mirrors to see what it is on your head.

Photobucket

Oh my God, what the hell is that! You start to fiddle with it to attempt and get it off, but you soon realize that it is useless to try. As you head back to the chair, the TV comes to life. You sit down and static appears and the face of the most ghastly clown puppet appears on the screen.

Watch the video: Jigsaw's Video (After video, close the new window or tab to return to this cache page.)

As the screen goes to black you hear a click from behind your head and a ticking of a watch. You don't panic right away as you heard the puppet say you had 45min to figure it out. You now know what is going on, as you had read of this sadistic bastard in the papers. It has to be the notorious serial killer Jigsaw. But why is he targeting innocent Geocachers like yourself. You think to yourself how messed up this is. It's like Jigsaw wanted to hide a cache, but had to do it in a sick and twisted puzzle trap format. Hell he even used cacher terms like "Log a Find" and "DNF"

Well you are not gong to go out without a fight. To live and win your life back, you have a puzzle to figure out. You are a geocacher, puzzles are your thing. So you turn to the paper to start figuring it out, wondering if any of Jigsaw's other victims had the luxury of 45min to solve a puzzle. Somehow you doubt it.

Photobucket

You turn to the table and read the code. It says:

N 00110100 00111000 00110010 00110111 . 00110000 00110001 00110010
W 00110001 00110010 00110011 00110010 00110010 . 00111001 00110001 00110000

You know you have seen this kind of code before, but where!? A bunch of Zeros and Ones, hmmmm. Taping the pen on the desk to the rhythm of the clock ticking away behind your head, you think and think. But don't think too long as the time is ticking away!

You can check your answers for this puzzle on Geochecker.com.

NOTE: FROM GZ YOU MAY HAVE TO GO 190° South for 13 paces and look LOW, trust me your Geosences should be tingling. The cache is a well camo'd regular sized Lock-n-Lock. Stealth absolutly required, and rehide completely as found.

Congratulations pracademics, Porchlizard & PDLizard on the three-way FTF! FTF Prize was a $10.00 Starbucks Card and a copy of the film that inspired this cache; SAW uncut edition!
