ANTs in the Poplar Tree Multi-Cache

This cache has been archived.

2Wheel'in: Visited Poplar Tree Park today, and not only is the parking lot construction taking longer than expected...it is also encompassing a bit of the surrounding green space. Unfortunately, some of that green space housed the Chirp™. "ANTs" had a good run, and was found 83 times with only 2 DNFs in two and one half years. Many thanks to all who hunted it, I really enjoyed reading your logs. The Chirp™, stage 1 instruction container, and the final container were removed today.

How Geocaching Works

Please note Use of geocaching.com services is subject to the terms and conditions in our disclaimer.

Geocache Description:

Fairly level terrain, gravel parking lots, with gravel and paved pathways. Only the slightest amount of open woods bushwhacking. This multi-cache has 2 stages, and employs new geocaching technology.

This cache is hidden in Poplar Tree Park, a Fairfax County Park Authority (FCPA) administered green space., and it complies fully with the geocaching guidelines released by the FCPA.

Please note the cache page attributes - especially the yellow beacon displayed on this page. That beacon attribute means that a Chirp™; Geocaching Beacon has been placed to provide information, coordinates, and/or instructions as part of this geocache. However; this geocache is available to all - even if you can’t use Chirp™ technology.

Assuming you have a Chirp™ capable GPS receiver. you should start your Chirp™ searching (select ON) when you park at the coordinates listed above. (Please allow 10 to 20 seconds to acquire the Chirp™ and data).

If the word chirp means nothing to you, then you should still park at the cache page coordinates, you will find that they will place the first stage up the hill, about 15 feet in front of, and slightly right of your bumper. (Hint: Frr gur qbhoyr gehaxrq gerr? - frnepu nebhaq gur onfr sbe gur pbagnvare).

There is a bit of a “twist” with this cache though. The final stage is an off-set, and you’ll have to brush up on your projection skills, and do a bit of really simple mathematics.

Note: Parking, or walking up to the correct parking spot coordinates is pretty very important!! You'll stop with your tires in the gravel directly in front of a tree approximately 12 inches in diameter. Ensure you do your projection from that parking spot/coordinates!

If you should find the Chirp™...please resist the urge to physically touch, tamper with, or remove it.

The first stage container is very similar to one of MooseMaMa's cache containers.

There are times when this park will look like "Muggle Central", not to worry. The first stage is removed from all the action, but there may be other vehicles parked nearby...so please be aware. You will be sufficiently screened at the final stage. Last, but not least: No thorns, no ticks, no poison ivy!

Fairfax County Parks are open daily, dawn to dusk, please do NOT hunt this cache at night or any other time the park is closed.

.
NOTICE: Please be respectful of the posted park hours. If you enter the park after hours you are trespassing. If you are stopped you can be ticketed or arrested and will put the future of geocaching in the parks in jeopardy
