Geocache Description:

The Tranent to Cockenzie Wagonway passed through here on it's way to the harbour and was also used to transport the coal from Bankton for export. Around three hundred men and women were employed at the mine.
I was not able to find out a lot about the mine so would be grateful for any information i can add to this cache page.
The area is now an early example of former mine workings being converted to another use.  A sports centre with extensive outdoor pitches and an indoor Bowling green are located on the site.
The near by pyramid styled hill is a bing or overburden from the days when mining was active.  There was at one time a dry ski-slope on the southern side of the hill.
