Geocache Description:

This could be a long hike on the marked roads from the parking lot. Or it could be a short walk on a very short trail from your car :-).

This is a small camoed pill bottle not really hidden out of sight at all. Make sure you BYOP. The terrain rating is for the length of the hike/bike to the cache - if you park in the parking lot. With the exception of the last 4 or so feet you will be on the marked roads.

Statement from the U.S. Forest Service

Since its adoption into the National Forest System in 1945, the primary objective of the Stephen F. Austin Experimental Forest (SFAEF) has been wildlife and forest management research. As such, the site is used as an outdoor classroom and research site by by federal and state scientists and by students majoring in forestry, wildlife management, forest recreation, and environmental science. Upland portions of the forest are typically prescribed burned about every three years, so it is suggested that you use fire-proof caches. Please heed the following requirements from the Forest Service:

1.) Do NOT harm any animals or plants! Many of the critters you may see (including snakes) are active particpants in ongoing research studies. Remember, they live here- we're only visiting.

2.) Do NOT tamper with any equipment you may find in the forest, including ammo boxes not within logical distance of cache coordinates. These ammo boxes contain important research equipment. Plain and simple, if it's not a cache, don't mess with it!

3.) Please stay on the trails (or roads) except when necessary to retrieve a cache, and then use common sense in regards to the environment. There is no cache hidden in the forest that should result in the destruction of any plants, animals, or research equipment.

4.) No camping, smoking, or fires are allowed on the forest.

5.) The trails are only open to foot traffic and wheel chairs. Only Jack Creek Loop is considered wheel chair accessible. No bicycles, skate boards, or other forms of transportation are allowed on the trails.

6.) The trails are open during daylight hours throughout the year. If these rules are not followed, trail access (geocaching) will be jeopardized at the SFAEF. Please do your part to ensure that geocachers are able to enjoy the beauty of the SFAEF for years to come!
