Geocache Description:

This cache is placed with the permission of two adjacent property owner's permission. Please thank them if you have the opportunity to do so.

The cache is located near the Fallen Hoosier Heroes Memorial. After September 11th, 2001, Command Sergeant Major Donald E. Peed, a 22-year Veteran started this memorial at his home in Westfield, Indiana. For each Hoosier lost, he would place a hand-made Cross in his yard.

As of August, 2009 we have lost one hundred and fifty seven of our Bravest men and women. On April 1st, 2009, the Fallen Hoosiers Heroes Memorial Committee broke ground on the permanent site for this memorial at 401 N. Union Street in Westfield, Indiana.   In 2005, CSM Peed lost his battle with Agent Orange. "I know that my stepfather was not done with the memorial that he had started. I am not certain what he had in mind, but what I do know is that it is my Duty and Honor to continue this memorial in his memory." (David L. Davis, Chairman & Army Veteran)

The memorial site was officially dedicated on Flag Day, June 14th, 2009. You can go to the website to learn more about this memorial; visit : http://www.fallenhoosiers.com/.   While talking to Carol property owner and (Sergeant Major Donald's wife) about the memorial, she mentioned that the Anti-slavery Cemetery located behind the memorial also is the final resting place of soldiers that fought for our Freedom. You might want to take the opportunity to visit this cemetery while you are at the memorial. A notable name in the Anti-slavery Cemetery is Asa Bales. There is also a park next to the cemetery named after Asa.

A SPECIAL THANKS TO CAROL AND HER NEIGHBOR FOR ALLOWING US TO PLACE THIS CACHE!

The container one is seeking is large enough for a log and very small trackable items. When changing out trackable items from this cache, please follow Groundspeak guidelines.

Congratulations to polofan on the FTF!
