For 42 years, Johns Manville, a 367,000 square foot fiberglass manufacturing plant, stood in this area. Shutdown of the plant, which manufactured fiberglas insulation used in aerospace and in commercial and industrial buildings, was ordered mostly because the plant's technology was outmoded was and no longer cost effective. The plant closed June 2001.
