Geocache Description:



"This cache has been placed for the RACE10 event, held Oct 29-30, 2010. This cache was released to the public on Oct 28th but should not be located prior to noon, Oct 29th. The caches for the event are released early so that the caching community has an opportunity to solve puzzles and plan their routes prior to the event start."



The Celtics celebrated Oct 31st as Samhain (pronounced Sow-in) as the their end of the old year/birth of the new year fesitval. They believed that at this point in the Wheel of the Year the veil between the living and the dead was the thinnest. Much devination was done to send and receive messages to their dead. The Celts were superstitious and believed that if their dead family members were unhappy they would come and take the living away thus people dressed up to fool the dead into thinking that they were someone else or were dead themselves. Often food was left out for the dead to humour them. As for the colours of Black and Orange - the orange is reflected in the colours of the trees at the end of harvest time. Black refers to the side of Halloween that deals with the festival of the dead, which it was once believed to be.

The word Halloween comes from All Hallow's Eve as Nov 1st is All Soul's Day and Nov 2nd is All Saints day in the Christain church. Black also represents darkness and by this time of year the shortening days are becoming more and more apparent. Nov 1st is celebrated as the Day of the Dead around the world. Every item in this cache and the decorations covering the cache are all orange and black. On the day I hod the cache the bog was surrounded by trees full of Orange leaves.

The FTF prize is an orange and black Amandazon geocoin. The logbook and pen are orange and black and every piece of swag is orange and or black. Enjoy!
