Geocache Description:

This cache is the first in a series of local, easily accessible suburban caches.

Eastlakes takes its name from the extensive lake system on its southeast and its location in the Eastern Suburbs. The area was once known as Botany Swamps. This was Sydney's third source of water when water was pumped from here to a reservoir in Paddington from 1859.

The lakes were partly reclaimed from the swamp to create the Lakes Golf Course and Sydney Airport extensions. Part of the suburb is on the former site of the Rosebery Racecourse, which was redeveloped in the 1960s into a residential and commercial area. Part of the racecourse area is now the site of a park with a memorial to local soldiers who trained on that site during both world wars.

More information on Eastlakes can be found at the following link (visit link)

This cache is situated close to the site of the current series of lakes that gives this suburb its name. It is easily accessible via the newly refurbished cycleway/footpath that runs along southern side of Wentworth Avenue.

The Cyclyway makes the suburbs of Pagewood, Marboubra and La Perouse easily accessible from Rosebery and Mascot. It also extends a safer access to La Perouse from the fantastic Bay to Bay ride which starts in Homebush Bay.

Please note that there is no car parking near this cache, best access is via cycle or good ol foot power. You will also need to bring your own pen to log your visit.
