The year was 1978. It was Odessa
Missouri's Centennial and I was a freshman at OHS (GO BULLDOGS!).
As part of the celebration, the town newspaper sponsored a student
essay contest with Odessa's 100 year history the theme. The winning
essays of one boy and one girl would be placed along with other
items in a 100 year time capsule to be buried at Railroad Park.
Yours truly submitted one of those winning essays. To be honest, I
don't remember much of what I wrote. I don't even know if it was
really that good or if there just weren't many entries to compete
against. Bottom line though, is that when I'm long gone, someone
will open that capsule and people will read the immortal words I
put down on paper. How cool is that?
That, of course, is assuming the seal
on the capsule holds. Let's keep our fingers
crossed.
Cache is just a hair larger than your
average micro so bring your own writing instrument. Oh, and don't
worry about the folks with the badges in the building next door.
They've been told to expect some strangers roaming around the
little park looking helplessly lost.
Thanks to Odessa Parks &
Recreation for approving this cache placement.
Good luck and happy
caching.
