This cache is to "Celebrate the Sealing" of the Nowra-Nerriga road, giving us a great alternative route between Canberra and Nowra. It has taken more than 80 years (originally proposed in 1927!) , but a sealed road between Nowra and Nerriga has finally been completed and opened.
The $95 million cost of upgrading the track to B-double standard required contributions from Shoalhaven City Council ($12 million), the Federal Government ($34 million) and $49 from the State Government after delays resulted in a cost blow-out by $15 million.
This cache gives you the perfect reason for a lemon squash and a pie at the old Nerriga Pub, first established in 1846.
