Geocache Description:

A cache hidden in the once spectacular grounds of Shipley Hall.

The Shipley Estate is an ancient manor which was referenced in the Domesday Book. From the 14th century the land was extensive forest used for hunting, with a hunting lodge on Shipley Hill. From the 16th century, coal mining provided income for the owners. After the collieries were nationalised in 1948, the National Coal Board decided that the Hall was too damaged by subsidence to be worth keeping, and demolished it. No part of Shipley Country Park managed by Derbyshire County Council.
This magnetic cache is a relatively small container but can cope with a couple of swaps. The area around the cache can get very busy especially on a sunny day so stealth may be required. Although only 20 meters or so from good paths the undergrowth will prevent pushchairs and wheels chairs from accessing the cache.
Dense tree cover may prevent accurate GPS results but that should matter if you can see the water from the trees!
