For children and beginners ! Located in High Ariège, close to the Plateau of Beille. Typical vegetation of medium montain. The geocache is located close to the IGN geodetic mark n°BG0922601.
Cette géocache n'est pas difficile à trouver avec un GPS ou une carte topo IGN au 1:25.000 (chercher le symbole : un triangle avec un point au centre accompagné de la mention Bne). Prendre la nationale 20, après Tarascon-sur-Ariège, suivre la direction Les Cabannes, traverser le village en direction du Plateau de Beille (D522), commencer la montée. Très beaux paysages forestiers et montagnards. Après la 6ième épingle-à- cheveux, prendre un petit chemin qui conduit à la Cheminée d'équilibre de la conduite forcée. Cette conduite améne, sous la montagne, l'eau de la rivière Ariège prise au niveau de Mérens, jusqu'à la centrale EDF d'Aston, en contrebas de la Cheminée. Faire environ 100m vers le sud-est en montant dans la forêt jusqu'à un grand pré. La cache est située à proximité de la borne géodésique située au point 42°46'13,69" N, 1°41'10,27" E. Cette borne est assez visible, bien qu'elle soit à même le sol, entourée de broussailles, à l'orée d'un petit bosquet de bouleaux. La cache contient de petits jouets (sifflet, flûte, ballons, scoubidou) et un mini dossier de cartographie illustrant l'évolution des technologies cartographiques, depuis la carte de Ptolémée (150 après JC), la carte de Cassini (environ 1786), la carte IGN au 1/25.000 et la base de données géodésiques de l'IGN.

It is easy to find this geocache with a GPS or an IGN topographical map at 1:25.000 scale (look for the following symbol : a triangle with a point inside surrounded by the letters Bne). Take the road n°20. After Tarascon-upon-Ariège, go to Les Cabannes (the huts), then take the small road n°D522 to Plateau de Beille. Very nice forests and montainous landscapes. After the 6th turn, take a small track leading to the balance Chimney of the water pressure pipe. The pipe conveys, under the mountain, the water taken in the river Ariège at Mérens to the EDF power station of Aston, below the Chimney. From the Chimney yard, walk 100 m south-east in the forest, up to a large meadow. The cache box is located close to the IGN geodetic mark n°BG0922601 (GPS point 42°46'13,69" N, 1°41'10,27" E). This borne is relatively well visible, although it is on the ground, surrounded by some bushes, in front of a small thicket of birches. On the cache box there are small toys (whistle, flute, balloons, scoubidou), a logbook, and a mini-folder showing some progress in mapping technologies, from the Ptolemy map (about 150 years after JC), the Cassini map (around 1786), the 1/25.000 IGN topo maps, to the IGN geodetic database.
