Geocache Description:

Otaki Forks is 19km inland from Otaki township The easiest turn-off from State Highway 1 is at Otaki Gorge Road, just south of the State Highway 1 bridge over the Otaki River. The last 5km of the Otaki Gorge Road is unsealed, narrow and windy – please drive carefully.

This is where to camp to start your caching in the Otaki Forks.

My memory of this site is from camping trips from college. We did not have the luxurey that we have now. In my day you parked along way away and had to cross the roaring meg by swing bridge not by a fancy bridge you drive your car over now. And also you carried your pack which had a week of stuff in it for this spot.

Just around the river bend use to have a great swimming hole. Have no idea if its still there.

The one memory that I still enjoy is its great to be back up here seeing the tracks and tramping.

Along with Skeetinnz we have placed a few caches up here. We both hope you will enjoy this area as we have and are doing again. Its a great spot to camp and tramp. Respect the warnings on the other caches and come for a weekend and enjoy the tramps in this area.

I have put in the gallery photos of places you can see from this camp site. Please enjoy it as much as I do.
