Sideshow Bob Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Skookum Bear: As the cache owner has not indicated that they have visited the cache location to replace it if it was missing, perform needed maintenance, or verify that it is still there within a reasonable amount of time, I am regretfully archiving the cache to clear it from the active cache database and open the area to new caching opportunities. If the cache owner would like to replace a cache at this location, please submit a new geocache listing and it will be reviewed under the current Geocaching guidelines.

Please do not respond to this note by sending an email reply - your response will go to an unmonitored location and disappear into the ether instead of being sent to me. If you need to contact me regarding this cache, please do so using the link on my Profile Page

Geocache Description:

Try not to step on any rakes while you're out looking for this one! Please use stealth as this is a high-traffic area for joggers and cyclists. If anyone asks what you're up to, you can just say you're trying to get a better look at the trestle. Access to the cache is a short, SLIPPERY footpath at the northeast end of the trestle. Parking is available on Saanich Road.

Sideshow Bob
Robert Underdunk Terwilliger, better known by his stage name Sideshow Bob, is a recurring character in the animated television series The Simpsons. This show has been a significant (pop)cultural reference point for me for as long as I can remember. I was 7 or 8 when it first started airing, and 22 years later I still chuckle along with new episodes and have many conversations that use the phrase "like that time on the Simpsons when...". While building this cache container, every time I looked at it from a certain angle all I could think was "man, does this thing ever remind me of Sideshow Bob".

Although the location of the cache has nothing to do with Sideshow Bob, it is a pretty cool spot. It is just off to the side of the Swan Trestle, which was rebuilt in 1995 as an improvement to the Lochside Regional Trail. For more information on the area and the trail itself, just refer to the many informational signs the CRD has placed near the cache.

While I was placing the cache, an old man on a bike stopped to peer over the side and asked me if anyone was still living down there (I guess he meant under the trestle). By the looks of things, nobody is camping out underneath at the time being, but there is a bit of litter/graffiti not far from the cache, so I would recommend avoiding the area at night as it might be a hangout.

At the time of placement, this cache contains a log book, pencil, Geocaching notification card, $4 for the first finder, a few random coins, some custom guitar picks, a variety club pin, and a Canadian Tire keychain. I would recommend that you bring a writing stick just in case the pencil breaks or goes missing. Please help yourself to whatever you like from the cache, as long as you leave something in return.

Also, when replacing the lid on the container, please twist it until it fits snugly. Happy caching!
