Cache along the High Trestle Trail at Slater, near it's junction with the Heart of Iowa Trail. DO NOT GO OFF THE BIKE TRAIL MORE THAN 25 FEET TO THE SOUTH, to avoid encroaching on private land.
This cache is just west of the railroad junction where the Milwaukee Road's east-west mainline met with the original Chicago North Western north-south line between Des Moines and Ames. The lines north and east of here went away in the 1980's, and the Union Pacific abandoned the rest about 5 years ago. There are remnants of railroad signaling and communications gear at GZ, which, as you may have figured out by now, I like to call to your attention. :)
