The Golden Booyah! - An Intercalary Challenge Mystery Cache

This cache has been archived.

Dr. House: Sounds like this one is missing. Once tick season is finished, I'll go double check the area to see if I can find it, but otherwise this one has had a good run.

Archived.

Geocache Description:

This cache is at the posted co-ordinates and is a relatively simple Challenge Cache that, believe it or not, requires that you only find one cache. The catch? It must be a find on the rarest of calendar days: February 29th.

One of the many benefits of a Premium Membership from Groundspeak is the ability to set up notifications for the newest of newly published caches specific to a certain area. Many cachers choose to use this feature to receive details on newly published caches via email to get a head start on anyone else in their area so that they can race out in hopes of being the "prestigious" First To Find (FTF) on that cache. For some, there's no greater high than the thrill of the FTF hunt and beating another cacher to a new cache by mere minutes. Consequently, for some, there's no lower low than missing out on being first... Alas, dear Second to Finder, there's always another day for that FTF.

When I looked back through my statistics, I noticed that I got rather lucky on one occasion. Not only had I found a cache on February 29th, but I had also pulled off the "Golden Booyah!" by being the FTF on that cache on the rarest of days as well.

"What the heck is "Booyah!"" you may ask yourself? Well, frankly, I've asked myself that very same thing many times over the past few years. As legend has it, "Booyah!" (frequently spelled in capital letters with far more "O's" than clearly necessary, followed by even more exclamation marks) is the gutteral sound of victory eminating from the deepest darkest nether regions of any cacher based out of the Niagara Region when they score an FTF. It could also be a very large stew, but that seems silly for the context of this game. While I'm not as crazy about FTF's as I used to be, I still enjoy them now and again and have been known to utter a "Booyah!" on occasion.

Anyway, in the history of Geocaching, there has only been 2 occasions where cachers had the opportunity to make a find on February 29th: 2004 & 2008. This opportunity will not come around again until 2012, hence the difficulty rating of this cache.

For this Challenge Cache, you simply must make a find on February 29th. Being a Challenge Cache, there are some rules that you must follow in order to qualify to log a "Found It" for this cache:

1. Obviously, you must have logged an find on a cache on February 29th. (Finds on your own caches do not count!!) For the purposes of this cache, historical finds will count, meaning that if you found a cache on February 29, 2004 or February 29, 2008, you can log this as a find (provided all other requirements are met, of course).

2. Your find must have been on a cache that had an actual container and log book. Thus, you may not use a Locationless cache, Webcam cache, Virtual cache, Earthcache, GPS Maze or any Event type cache (including, but not limited to: Event Cache, Mega Event Cache, CITO Event) to qualify for this cache.

3. You must include the GC code to the cache(s) you found on February 29th on this page in your "Found It" log. Any log that has been edited for ANY reason will be considered void for the purposes of this Challenge cache, without exception. Sorry to the honest caching folks who may simply have been correcting a typo, but I just can't tell that it wasn't a change of date to qualify for this cache.

4. (Optional) Should you have been lucky enough to have been the FTF on any of those caches, feel free to indicate that in your log to claim a "Golden Booyah!", but being the FTF is absolutely not a requirement for this cache.

"Found It" logs that fail to meet the above-stated requirements will be deleted.
