This is an offset cache at Caton Moor Wind Farm. There is
parking and information at the published coordinates, and it's only
a few minutes walk on firm track to the final. There is an
excellent multi-stage cache Beasts of Caton Moor that starts
here as well, if you'd like to stretch your legs further.
The wind farm goes back to 1994. If you look up Google Earth
you'll still see the old layout of 10 smaller turbines that had a
total capacity of 3 MW. In 2005/6, the original turbines were
replaced with eight larger and more efficient ones, increasing
total capacity to 16 MW. Plans for a larger wind farm on adjacent
Claughton Moor have recently been refused.
The final is located just outside the wind farm on open access
land. Walk uphill and through the gates at the top of the road, and
then turn right through a second set of gates. The cache is hidden
between track and fence, where Rowan and Silver Birch line up.
