Geocache Description:

Magnetic container. Bring your own scribbler. Sadly, I have never seen a show here, but feel free to mention any shows you have seen in your log!

The Riviera Theatre was originally built as a movie theatre for the Balaban and Katz chain. It is considered by historians to be Chicago's first "movie palace." It was designed by architects George and C.W. Rapp and was completed in 1917. In addition to the movies shown, the management also showcased various vaudeville acts, jazz concerts and other live acts. In 1986, "The Riv" (as many of us refer to it) became a private night club. Today it is one of many great concert venues in the city of Chicago. In 2000, it was designated as a contributing structure to the Uptown Square National Historic District.
