Geocache Description:

About 200 feet to the west use to be a beautiful Spanish style Train Depot built by the Atlantic Coast Line Railroad.

For many years there had been efforts to fence in the Depot and make it a museum. Unfortunately the funds never became available. There are only a few of these type depots left with the terra cotta roofs and adobe walls. Sadly it was burned as a result of arson by vandals. This area also used to be home to Phillips Lumber and Milling Company. The old mill that was located to the south of the depot was torn down. Six sets of tracks were once located here along with several fuel distributors and lumber yard and concrete company. A siding used to go around by some warehouses and over Chestnut Street to the Master Door company. This is where the current Law Enforcement Center is located. The factory is gone along with the Syrup company and the low overpass that used to be here. Most people don't even know about the Antigo Place warehouses. There were several stores here. The one that means the most to my dad was the store operated by Hugh Morris. My dad said he was one of the friendliest people you would ever meet.

There is a lot of history in this area. Unfortunately most of it has feel to changing economic times and vandalism. As the neighborhood declined so did the business. But then again, isn't that the way it is everywhere?
