Jimmy Hoffa
Another in the "Historical Figures In Geocaching"
Series, this cache examines the notorious Jimmy Hoffa, who
inadvertantly became a human “DNF” !!!
Hoffa was involved with the International
Brotherhood of Teamsters union, as an organizer from 1932 to 1975.
He served as the union's General President from 1958 to 1971. In
1964, Hoffa was convicted in Chattanooga, Tennessee, of attempted
bribery of a grand juror. On December 23, 1971, less than five
years into his 13-year sentence, Hoffa was released from the
Lewisburg, Pennsylvania prison, when President Richard Nixon
commuted his sentence to time served. Hoffa disappeared at, or
sometime after, 2:45 pm on July 30, 1975, from the parking lot of
the Machus Red Fox Restaurant in a suburb of Detroit. According to
what he had told others, he believed he was to meet there with two
Mafia leaders.
Extensive investigations into the disappearance
began immediately, and continued over the next several years by
several law enforcement groups, including the FBI. However, the
investigations failed to conclusively determine Hoffa's fate. His
dissappearance remains a mystery to this day -
