Geocache Description:

CONGRATULATIONS TO MaPaChoo FOR FTF!!

Cannon Mountain (8,609 feet) rises above Overland Road and Little James Creek. It can be accessed from a small parking pull-off that has an adjacent yellow U.S. Forest Service Property Boundary sign. Reaching the top of the peak requires a fairly short, moderately steep hike, and you will be able to find and follow a trail/old road for a portion of the distance. Some bushwhacking is necessary. The entire climb can be done on Forest Service public land. There is no need to trespass on private land to the west. The peak's summit is forested, so views are restricted. But it's a pleasant place. A small cairn is located at the highest point.

The cache is flat, and yellow. Look for it in the "cannon's" bore (a fallen log.....). Then reach in to extract your mountain delight. Be certain to bring a pen or pencil for signing the log. There is space in the cache for a geocoin or two, but little else. Have fun!

From the top of Cannon Mountain it's easy to drop down to the north on USFS land to a nearby trail that leads to some other marvelous caches in the vicinity, including Kleaver Karl's Kache. This route would not be the normal one used to reach these caches. If you decide to use this alternative, plan to spend several hours in order to reach the series of caches that are available, and to return to your parking place on Overland Road.
